5 locations for 1 second : 9 patients
8 locations for 1 second : 3 patients
8 locations for 2 seconds : 8 patients
8 locations for 2 seconds and posterior margin application : 42 patients
We reviewed and evaluated the effect and complications of radiofrequency surgery in snoring.
62 patients with snoring who visited in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Seoul National University Dental Hospital were reviewed. Subjected results were collected based on VAS(visual analog scale). Objective results were compared based on the sound level meter findings before and after surgery.
The obtained results from this study were as followings;
1. 8 locations application on the soft palate for 2 seconds and posterior margin of the soft palate for 1 second is the most effective treatment for snoring (VAS = 2.8)
2. There were 84.6% improvement in the patients who were presumed to have OSAS(obstructive sleep apnea syndrome) before and after surgery
3. There were 69.6% improvement based on the sound level meter findings before and after surgery
4. Post-operative pain was maintained for 6.6 days and there were little complications
Through the results of this investigation, radiofrequency surgery on the soft palate is a easy, safe and effective treatment for snoring
